Creating identities has always been one of the joys of building something new and the task of creating the Visual Identity for 16 Bars was no exception.

Translation
Role: Creative Director, Design Director
Overview: Directing 2 of our finest Senior Designers, my brief to the team was to utilize best practices of proper discovery and research to inform the creative exploration, through the lens of our established DNA as an enterprise (UnitedMasters Inc.).
Aside from the attributes I wanted to convey through our mark, one of my requirements was that the mark must convey the notion of both of our primary practices of Design and Filmmaking, with malleability to be able to be further refined and evolved as we mature as a brand.
The team ended up creating over 65 conceptual sketches with a shortlist of heavy contenders, but ultimately landed on what you see on this page.
Keeping it in the Family
Staying true to the entire enterprise, the second requirement was that our new mark must live organically and harmoniusly with the other marks of the enterprise. The mandate did not require we follow the exact design language of the other marks, but visually. it should feel like an “add-on” and not an afterthought.
Output
The finalization of v1.0 went down the path of bold and stoic, with the intention and purpose to be modular through the function of collapsible components to create “frames” to showcase the visuals of our Filmmaking work.
